Enjoy the ride along Kentucky’s Authentic Bourbon Road Trip

Tour With Us KY is a boutique transportation service that specializes in bourbon-centric experiences. Whether you’re looking for someone to take the wheel while you hop between distilleries or want a custom plan for a multi-night getaway to Covington, Frankfort and Bardstown showcasing a wide array of bourbon stops, Tour With Us KY is ready to help.

Tour With Us KY can follow the Come Find Bourbon original itinerary, our weekend itinerary, incorporate any of our additional trip ideas, or put together a unique road trip based on your specific interests.

We recently talked to Keith Daniels, president and owner of Tour With Us KY, to learn more about the company and how he helps bourbon enthusiasts realize their dream trip.

How did Tour With Us KY come to be?

I launched the company with my friend Randy Frickman who’s a bourbon connoisseur. I had a black sprinter van and we decided to offer bourbon-centric tours in our home state. He came up with the name and logo; it subliminally suggests ‘tour whiskey.’

We kicked off in November 2019 and it went like gangbusters. During the pandemic we were put in a holding pattern, but momentum picked back up in March 2021 once distilleries started opening back up to tours. It’s been gangbusters ever since.

Our tagline is ‘Sip Responsibly.’ Book with us and you’ll have a van, tour guide, bourbon concierge, and the chance to spend great time with your friends, family, colleagues, and not worry about a thing. We will pick you up and go on the tour and return you to the pick-up point, whether your trip is one or several days. We’ll take care of everything from beginning to end so you can go out for a full bourbon experience and get home safely and soundly.

Are your road trips customized?

We have set itineraries and can also customize an itinerary for the customer. For Come Find Bourbon, we might pick you up at the CVG airport in Covington and take you to Hotel Covington. We could spend the next day exploring Maysville and Augusta in Northern Kentucky, then travel on to Frankfort, then to Bardstown. We’ll schedule tours with the distilleries you want to visit, get you to the restaurants that serve the type of food you want to try, and make sure you get the sort of bourbon-centric experiences you are looking for.

What’s included?

We have partners that are very bourbon-centric, including hotels and other key points of interest. We take care of transportation, tours, tastings, and incidentals. We’ve found what works best for us and for consumers is to have a set price per person per day. (This varies depending on where you are going and the length of your trip, but you’d get a price quote before booking a trip.)

What is not included?

Most of the time what’s not included are meals, drinks, and personal purchases.

We have done corporate events where everything is built into the price. For smaller groups we’ve found that it works best to break out personal expenses.

Do your tours focus on distilleries?

We go to distilleries and we also love to go to restaurants, bars, and speakeasies that are bourbon-themed and/or have a great bourbon selection. Several of our favorite restaurant stops have bourbon-centric dishes on their menus. We let our partners know in advance that we’re coming so they can show Tour With Us KY groups special attention.

How many people are on your tours?

Our sweet spot is eight to 12, but we can take up to 14 in our passenger sprinter vans. That works well with the distilleries, as that’s typically the number they want on a tour. On a motorcoach we can go up to 48; in that situation we may drop of smaller groups at multiple sites and swap them around. If a couple or group of four to six friends want a private experience, we put them in a dedicated black SUV with a private driver.

What sets Tour With Us KY apart from other tour companies?

We try to personalize each tour as much as possible for each individual. If you’re planning a trip for a birthday, anniversary, bachelor/ette party, team-building, whatever, we will inform our stops ahead of time what’s going on.

What do you most want people to know?

Our number one goal is safety and security. We want to help you go have a wonderful time without worrying that you’ll get a DUI on the way back. Bourbon can be filled with history, legacies, and at each stop you can partake and enjoy a trip that will become a wonderful memory.

Come Find Bourbon

In 1818, Catherine Spears Carpenter Frye made bourbon history as the first person to write down the recipe for sour mash. A century later, Margie Samuels made her own historic contribution when, in the 1950s, she created the most iconic whiskey packaging in the industry with Maker’s Mark’s hand-dipped red wax seal. In 2016, Joyce and Autumn Netherly made headlines as Kentucky’s only mother/daughter bourbon distillery owners. As far back as the early 1800s, Kentucky women have been leaving their mark on the bourbon landscape. “The bourbon industry isn’t just for the boys,” said Stacy Prichard, vice president of distillery relations at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival , held every September on the grounds of Spalding Hall in Bardstown. “There are a lot of women in bourbon—many with chemical and engineering degrees. There are lots of women in leadership roles. Pretty much anything women want to do, they’re doing it.”

Bourbon and chocolate. Bourbon and bacon. Bourbon and the Great Outdoors. Bourbon is the ultimate pairing partner. Whether walking, shuttling, or ridesharing, these communities seamlessly blend bourbon adventuring and outdoor fun while also supporting safe and responsible exploration. COVINGTON: A WALKABLE BOURBON HUB Bourbon Experience: Stroll MainStrasse Village, a German-inspired, pedestrian-friendly, National Register of Historic Places neighborhood. Alternatively, ride-share to Ludlow to experience one of NKY’s most original distilleries, Second Sight Spirits , with its Las Vegas show-inspired Swami still, crystal balls, and tours that include a tasting of the distillery’s Oak Eye Kentucky Bourbon, fine rums, moonshine, and fan-favorite hazelnut liqueur. Outdoor Adventure: Walk the Roebling Suspension Bridge for sweeping views of the Ohio River unwinding between Cincinnati’s stunning skyline and Northern Kentucky’s church-steepled landscape. At night, when illuminated, the experience is magical. Play a round of disc golf at Devou Park, a 700-acre playground with one of the most photogenic views in the region at its iconic city overlook. Follow the outdoor art on foot with walking tours in Covington’s Central Business District with its mid-1800s architecture to see murals, mosaics, statues, and sculptures, including Clive the Alien, a 50-foot green space invader hanging out—or over—the Midtown Parking Garage and keeping a watchful eye on the earthlings below.
